Ten Days in Limbo

September 5-14, 2012

The last 10 days have dragged by as we awaited an opportunity to cross 'the lake'. We moved south to Grand Haven instead.

Michigan's Beautiful Dunes
Our first night was spent at the municipal marina, along the (Grand) river, just inside the channel. We rocked side to side all night long. Seasickness complicated by a migraine left me feeling queasy for the next few days. We moved into Spring Lake to escape the rough water. We toured the area in our dinghy but found no other loopers. Walking is our third mode of transportation and we covered a lot of ground. Finally the near shore forecast was calm enough to head to South Haven.

We had never been to South Haven by boat or in the summer for that matter so it was a new experience for us. One night at the 'Maritime' marina had us convinced we should move to the new south side municipal marina where the amenities were better and we had our choice of slip.

and Twilight

Only one other vessel was moored there, a 96 ft. yacht, the Canim, had the outside wall. After googling her name I discovered she had an interesting past. One owner was the wife of Buster Keaton while another owner entertained Julie Andrews and her husband Blake Edwards! For the rest of us (that do not have a hired crew) there is no escaping household chores. After doing 4 loads of laundry we made use of the marina's courtesy bikes. I can't remember the last time I rode a bike with no gears or no hand brakes! A visitor stopped by after seeing our AGLCA burgee. Don from Miss TeRae said he and his wife Theresa had recently completed the loop, returning to South Haven. Don gave us pointers and swapped stories for awhile. He kindly offered to drive us to Wal-Mart if we needed to re-provision. Idyll Time, a Krogen out of Tennessee arrived on Friday. Jeff and Suzie had completed the loop and now enjoyed their summers in exploring the Great Lakes. Finally, another 'looper in progress' pulled into the marina. Jim's Joy II from Savannah GA were spending the night before heading out to Hammond, IN. Their boat made it easy to remember their names. The Irish Attitude would be heading for Chicago in the morning.

Good Morning
Sunshine!

Michigan!

Bye, Bye
